The past couple of years have been tough for many, and they’ve offered a chance to reflect, unlearn, and relearn. Throughout this time, self-care has become one of the most valuable practices I’ve adopted. At first, I thought of it as just a luxury, but I have come to understand it is essential for long-term growth. Whether it’s making time to rest, setting boundaries, or taking a moment to pause and breathe, I have learned that self-care isn’t about being selfish. It is about taking care of myself so I can be my best.
As a career coach, my attention and energy have always focused on my role to support my clients in their career journeys. I live and breathe helping others. It is a perfect job for me that gives me fulfillment. Although the long-term effects of the pandemic meant my services were in higher demand, I found myself withdrawing more than ever.
I got more and more frustrated and decided to do a bit of research on self-care. If anything I believed this was what would keep me afloat during good and bad days. It turns out, self-care looks different for everyone. And the type of self-care you choose today may not be as effective 2 months from now.
